Live from the world’s newest banana republic. . .
Some had thought that the nursing student from Georgetown who was almost impeached for his outlandish comments supporting concentration camps would be the Republican nominee in Virginia's 8th Congressional District, but one former army top spy had speculated that the establishment would sneak in a candidate off the radar to be the Republican nominee challenging Congressman Don Beyer, Jr. But at this hour, with just a little more than a week before the primary elections, the question is what motivates a former congressional candidate in Florida's 14th Congressional District to move to a post office box, spend almost $30,000 of his personal funds to run as a candidate in the most reliable Democrat Party congressional district in Virginia?
Retired Special Forces veteran Jerry Torres has still been posting on Facebook in Florida in late March, but suddenly before the first quarter FEC filing deadline, he suddenly decided to file a Statement of Candidacy, drop $4,380 on a filing fee and expend over $25,000 on a vendor to solicit signatures to qualify for the June primary by April 4th, and apparently in one day he had solicited at least the thousand qualifying signatures to overtake Heerak Christian Kim, the putative front runner, and Bob Moher, a newcomer to Republican politics. But why would the General Counsel for the Republican Party of Virginia be appointed as his treasurer?
Questions abound at VA8GOP, where they remain convinced that 2024 “is the year to defeat the Democrat trifecta of Joe Biden, Mark Warner, and Don Beyer!” Because 2020 plus six is 2024? And they believe Democrats stole the election?
Some were shocked when, for the first time since 2008, VA8GOP had announced a primary for “the U.S. House of Representatives will be held on June 18, 2024.” And who would ever expect an announcement from VA8GOP that: “We will not be voting on the nominee for U.S. Congress this year at the 8th District Convention.” The official statement from VA8GOP is:
“Legislation that was signed into law in 2021 effectively prohibits District Committees from choosing a convention as the method of nomination.
The determination of the RPV legal counsel is, ‘A convention, as currently defined under the Plan, would have the practical effect of excluding otherwise eligible voters who cannot attend the convention. As such, §24.2-509 prevents any committee from selecting it as a method of nomination.’”
But, at this hour, questions remain as to why Chris Marston had interpreted a new enactment regarding the nomination of Senate and statewide candidates to prevent a candidate from being nominated at a party convention for U.S. Congress, before becoming the treasurer for Torres, and whether Torres is even in Virginia.
An upcoming filing to challenge the candidate selection process raises serious questions about what Republicans were actually attempting after two candidates failed to solicit the required number of signatures.
“Well, Howard, fiscal conservative Torres has already raised and disbursed immediately over $29,000, leaving zero dollars cash on hand. In tax accounting we call that a WASH sale. All of a sudden, $25,000 arrived to pay for ‘signature solicitation’ on April 3rd, the last day for qualification, plus the $3,480 filing fee to the state and a thousand dollar compliance fee. Just in from Florida but described as from Virginia, living in a post office box. What profit maximizing rational actor would uproot from Florida, and drop $29,000 out of pocket to run as a Republican in VA8?” queried former army top spy, Major Mike Webb, who had received a lucrative federal job offer when he had attempted to run against the establishment choice candidate, Charies Hernick in 2016, the topic of current litigation to compel a grand jury investigation into allegations of bribery.
“He's retired Special Forces. Maybe he thought DIA might offer him an unsolicited job, which is not a bribe. It wouldn't be the first time DIA just decided to hire somebody for no reason. Maybe I should send Torres my contacts at Kimmel and Rolling Stone. At least Torres donated the money. Jeff Jordan loaned his campaign $30,000 and thought he'd get paid back, plus bought what looked like the first suit he ever owned. By November, I was praying that cheap red tie would hold out. With the slipknot he put over his head every time he had to wear it,” remarked Webb in contemptuous condescension, often repeated when referring to this podunk congressional district.
Your elected representative is called your elected representative for a reason; and Martin Luther King and Jesus never got elected.
