Nonchalant Attitude on Chance Travellers May Not Arrive at Reagan National Airport for Government and COVID-19 Vax Guinea Pigs

Live from the world’s newest banana republic. . .
Events trigger differing reactions in the press and social media, as well as in politics. Although the death of one Black Pentecostal bishop before the first Easter in pandemic along with 30 others captured enough news interest for a few sensational stories, none had stirred the curiosity that had prompted calls for investigation that the deaths of a few thoroughbreds had after the Kentucky Derby—not even his widow and copastor or members of his church raised a question. The oldest and boldest civil rights organization in progressive Arlington had been joined by Arlington NAACP member and County Board Member Matt de Ferranti, when they had demanded an investigation into eight deaths over eight years at the Arlington County Jail, and yet even the military had acceded to apparent requests from the family to delay identification of the person in command, and responsible for not just the loss of an aviation asset worth between $3 and $26 million, but the most fatal aviation tragedy in the past two decades. Clearly the UH-60 Blackhawk had ascended above the flight ceiling imposed, like Maverick penetrating the hard deck to buzz the tower. Clearly the military asset, regardless of the importance of the government continuity mission, had collided with a commercial jetliner of people unaware they might be in danger, and when a commercial pilot is usually on IFR, just cruising on automatic pilot, guided by the ILS beacon to just 200 feet from the runway, and not expecting, as had occurred just 24 hours before, without prompting the issue of an advisory. It doesn’t make a difference what sex or race the commander is, because in the military you get that paycheck and glory because you accepted responsibility and took an oath.
Someone over the rank of the commander had engaged in deliberate planning and had approved ongoing military operations, including Priority Air Transport (PAT) flight missions, within the special flight restricted area (SFRA), and someone had imposed a safety control measure and set a 200-foot ceiling. Someone had approved a deviation from regulation to permit a flight in the SFRA without a transponder, during hours of limited visibility and possibly involving night vision devices (NVDs), which degrade depth perception. While everyone is screaming about a shortage of air traffic controllers who are not the persons who hold the responsibility for collisions and avoiding midair and near midair collisions even for civilians, not raised much in discussion, is that someone had permitted the reduced flight crew aboard the UH-60 Blackhawk, operating with a crew of only three and not four, removing one set of eyes, critical for provided a full 360-degree coverage, especially for observation toward the aft of the pilot. Did someone miss the flight, or did someone approve a reduced crew for this potentially hazardous mission along a heavy traffic corridor? And, if a limited visibility operation, planning to even require NVDs, why didn’t even the pilot question for her crew, doing a Bret Crozier, crew don’t have to die, to request performance of the night training during hours of less congestion, and reducing the dangers to innocent civilian populations not even aware they are placing their lives at risk when choosing to fly into DCA, the convenience tradeoff for not landing at Dulles (IAD) or BWI. So, next time you plan to travel to this destination, be sure to consider that if you value your life, and do not want to sacrifice your nonessential existence for the future safety of some hotshot VIP, in a doomsday scenario that may never happen. Give us a thumbs up, Heroes!
