For years the elected member of Congress since 2014 in VA8 had expressed his frustrations with politicians who had twisted the Bible to promote bad policy and after capturing 77% of the vote, luxury car sales mogul Don Beyer, Jr., had graciously accepted the invitation of Jamie Raskin to join DC Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton on the Free Thought Caucus, the atheist club in Congress. Not long after Beyer had become the toast of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, with their motto, Not Afraid to Burn in Hell, but suddenly after a pandemic that had somehow failed to infect the septuagenarian even with an infected guest attending a dinner party in his home, the once proud to have four children rejecting God, church and religion legislator began talking about his abiding faith and had even returned to attending church.
And, now, wanting to contribute his leadership to the most recent crisis in his congressional district just across the Potomac. Beyer will be following the shining example of the Arlington NAACP, and leading those who wish to meditate, reflect, pause in silence or pray, to join him in hoping some power shall save us all.
“Well, Howard, you know Tim Kaine is usually the preacher in Virginia but now he’s got competition. Personally, I prefer actions reasonably calculated to address the situation, but unlike most in our district, I am not a scientist,” remarked Major Mike Webb.
Apparently the elder legislator decided to host the vigil after he had been contacted by Webb, a son of a preacher and defender of religious liberty in the pandemic, which was not a big moneymaker for his losing campaigns at all.
Your elected representative is called your elected representative for a reason; and Martin Luther King and Jesus never got elected.
